community programming and educational fairs.

Many families cared for by Duke Children’s Primary Care live in poverty with unmet basic human
needs. The largest of its 3 clinics is the Roxboro Road in Durham. The majority of this patient
population is insured by Medicaid and 75% of patients identify as a non-white race, many of whom
speak Spanish.

This essential charity relies on significant donations typically received via monthly events and
fundraising. However, the pandemic, and associated lockdown, has threatened the hospital’s ability
to provide essential items due to the cessation of all its usual income generation activities which has
led to the charity declaring an emergency situation.

The support provided by the McClay Foundation enables the hospital to provide vital, small items for
over 14,000 families in Durham and surrounding area to reduce health disparities and improve their
overall health. These essential items include thermometers for infants, diapers, infant, toddler and
child car seats, transportation vouchers and health & hygiene packages for adolescents.
